Damate occupied 45% of the Russian turkey meat market
For the third year in a row, Damate Group has been leading the rating of the largest Russian turkey meat producers according to the rating compiled by Agrifood Strategies. Last year, the company produced 131 thousand tons of products; its market share was 45.5%.
The calculation of production volumes and the rating of the leading turkey producers for 2019 were compiled by Agrigood Strategies based on data received from 25 companies whose annual output exceeds 100 tons.
According to the agency, in 2019 the total domestic production of turkey meat amounted to more than 288 thousand tons, which is 6% more than in 2018. The five largest suppliers accounted for about 78% of the total turkey production in Russia, which corresponds to the level of 2018 of the year. Compared to 2018, Damate increased the production of turkey meat almost by half or 42.7 thousand tons per year, once again confirming its leadership position.
The increase in production volumes is due to the continuation of the project for expansion of the capacities for production and processing of turkey up to 155 thousand tons per year, which is scheduled to be completed in 2020. The project is in the final stage, most of the facilities have been launched.
In addition, last year, Damate continued to develop its export deliveries, within which it began supplying its products to the People’s Republic of China. Over 12 months, the volume of sales abroad amounted to more than 1.4 thousand tons, more than 700 of which were shipped to China. In 2020, Damate plans to increase export sales.
The opening of a breeding reproducer with a capacity of 8 million hatching eggs per year had a positive effect on the development of the production. Under the agreement aimed at creating the first parental herd of turkey in Russia, Damate is the main customer of the hatching egg.
