Damate increased turkey production by 10% up to 237 thousand tons in 2023
Damate Group increased turkey meat production by 10% up to 237 thousand tons in 2023. The positive dynamics of production growth is due to the systematic implementation of the company's poultry breeding projects in Penza and Rostov regions, as well as the launch of a turkey hatching egg breeder in Tyumen region at full capacity.
In 2023 in Penza region, the company produced 183 thousand tons of turkey in slaughter weight, which is 11% more than in the same period of 2022. The stable growth of turkey production at the Penza complex is the result of systematic implementation of the project to expand capacity to 207 thousand tons per year.
As part of the expansion project, the company has started construction of two poultry blocks worth 6.9 billion rubles, with the Russian Agricultural Bank acting as a financial partner. The work takes place in Bolshaya Yelan village, Penza district. Each block consists of three poultry breeding sites with 64 poultry houses. The total capacity of poultry houses is about 900 thousand birds. The launch of the facilities is scheduled to the end of 2024, which will allow increasing turkey production by 22.6 thousand tons per year and reaching the planned capacity of the turkey breeding project.
In Rostov region, turkey production increased by 7% to 54 thousand tons. The significant growth was due to the development of the region's largest turkey breeding complex with a capacity of 85 thousand tons of meat per year. In 2023 Damate increased the capacity of the breeding reproducer up to 11 million hatching eggs per year and began production of hatching eggs on the fourth block of the reproducer. Thus, today all parent stock sites are fully operational.
In addition, Damate increased its commercial turkey flock in Rostov. The company launched the fourth block of the commercial flock of 40 poultry houses. The new commercial flock houses are designed to raise commercial poultry for further production. The capacity of the block is more than one million birds per year. At the end of April, the first poultry from the new poultry houses was forwarded to slaughter.
It is important to note that last year's operating data was favorably influenced by the full replacement of import egg with Russian turkey incubation eggs. Damate is the only turkey producer in Russia with its own industrial parent herd. This made it possible to significantly reduce the dependence of the Damate poultry industry on the import of genetic material, reduce biological risks and increase egg quality indicators due to a shorter shelf life and by optimizing logistics.
Achieving self-sufficiency became possible when the country's largest second-order turkey breeder with a capacity of 12 million eggs per year in Tyumen region reached production targets. The company’s plans for 2024 are to continue implementing projects in three regions and ensure stable operation of enterprises with an increase in turkey meat production.
As for now, Indilight and Tol’ko branded semi-finished meat products and deep-processed turkey products are sold in federal and local networks, retail and the HoReCa channel throughout the country, and are also exported.
